Magazine advert sketch

For my magazine advert I decided to develop the theme of bubbles as it is heavily used throughout my music video; symbolising fun and girly elements of my artist. I envision my magazine advert to have a pink background with my artist posing with the hat inside a large bubble to depict her brand image. Alongside this I thought of making the title of her album in an italic font in either baby blue or white with an outer glow to capture an eye-popping feature on the album. In addition, including the important little features helps advertise the album which is the reason why I chose the iTunes and MTV logo, advertising the synthpop genre. It is also vital to add the rating as it informs the audience on how good the song is or how liked it is by others.

Researching the conventions of magazine adverts

The conventions of these adverts include:

  • The brand image of the artist at the front to sell the album, for each artist the picture varies like Jessie J has a close up shot of her face which illustrates her fierce identity, where as Katy Perry has a more feminie and girly stance to show her bright identity.
  • The colour schemes associated with the brand image of the album itself ie. dark, neutral or bright and bold colours.
  • The logo and special font used, either clear and bold or italic.
  • Release date
  • Availability in stores or iTunes
  • The price
  • The record label is significant as it gives the audience an idea of what genre music they belong to.
  • The A4 size adverts consist of the title and artist's special pose.
The purpose of magazine adverts are to promote the artist and to sell their song, making them more popular in the music industry.

Finished net

Today I managed to finish my digipak and put it into a net. The process included saving each individual image as a jpeg so the image will be in the highest quality. I then opened up photoshop and placed the faces on an A3 sheet. Once I rotated the inner faces 180 degrees it made my finishing product look more like a proper digipak. When the process was completed I saved the digipak as a jpeg and a psd.

Record label research

I decided this record label as it is the first label Chvrches got signed to, therefore it relates to the synthpop genre.

Atlantic records is an American record label best known for its numerous recordings of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, jazz, and hip hop. However I thought that the bright bold colours would add to the synth pop, girly genre relating to my artist's brand identity.
Capitol records advertises various different genres such as Katy Perry, which is symbolic of pop theme. Her quirky and colourful brand image sets an influential aspect which I decided to use for my artist.
Virgin Records, Ltd. is a record label founded by English entrepreneur Richard Branson.

Photoshoot Sketch

Here is a sketch of some ideas I had for my album cover, featuring the artist (Alessia). I included the sun hat and a scarf to enhance the girly theme and the hat is used to show off her brand image, along with her signature curly hair.
